While the onset of Parkinson’s is still not fully understood, research appears to suggest that individuals may have a genetic predisposition to the disease which may be triggered by neurotoxins. In any event, the lives of Parkinson’s families has improved significantly over the past decade due to the development of a number of new medications and better understanding of the importance of exercise and nutrition.
For twenty years the Parkinson’s Disease Association of San Diego has been working to improve the quality of life of Parkinson’s families here in San Diego through our 14 programs and services as well as our contributions to local research efforts, which has just exceeded $1 million. We are the only local agency solely dedicated to Parkinson’s, and as such, are in a unique position to offer support and information to those in our community struggling with Parkinson’s.
For your reference and perhaps your readers in a follow-up article, I have attached some materials which provide a bit more information on the services available to your readership. One is our Program and Service Guide and the other a brochure on an upcoming physician and pharmacist symposium.
Again, thank you for bringing attention to both George and that life with Parkinson’s Disease is not the end of the world.
