Federal Aviation Administration inspectors visited San Diego City Council candidate Phil Thalheimer’s flight school at Montgomery Field this week and found “well maintained aircraft and very safety-conscious flight instructors,” said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

The visit was scheduled after two recent crashes involving planes from Thalheimer’s school, Flight Training International. The agency is still investigating the crashes, Gregor said.

Thalheimer is facing Sherri Lightner in the November runoff for the District 1 council seat.
