Monday, July 7, 2008 | Today’s Los Angeles Times’ business section leads with a story on California airports saying, “…major service cuts are on the way and (airport operators) need to consider the consequences of a prolonged economic downturn before proceeding with expensive capital improvements.” Oddly, the Times’ story fails to mention one word about San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, whose Regional Airport Authority is reported by Voice to be planning big changes even in the face of hard times — expansion and relocation of Lindbergh Field gates from the airport’s west side over to Pacific Highway. According to the Times, only Long Beach and San Francisco airports may expect increased airline service which might warrant such optimistic remodeling. Why has San Diego fallen off the Times’ radar? Or are we just flying blind?
