I’m a big fan of the New York Times‘ 36-hour stints in various travel hotspots, and this weekend’s installment was focused our direction.

The piece captures the usual suspects: Balboa Park, the Embarcadero, Old Town and the Zoo. Writer Brooks Barnes throws some love to my neighborhood, Ocean Beach, and recommends visitors check out Sunset Cliffs. And Barnes advises weekenders to stop in at Hash House a Go Go for dinner, before stopping at the Ivy’s nightclub, Envy, or at the Casbah, the live music venue.

My colleague Emily Alpert has some sweet Google skills and just found this: another 36-hours-in-San-Diego installment from 2004. That one includes a personal favorite: the Spreckels Organ Pavilion.

Check it out, and let me know what you think of the Times‘ picks. On what sights did they nail it? What’d they miss? Send me an e-mail at kelly.bennett@voiceofsandiego.org.
