Mayor Jerry Sanders said he spoke to District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis this afternoon and asked her to investigate the Southeastern Economic Development Corp. The request comes after today’s release of an audit that found the agency’s hidden compensation program rises “to the level of fraud.”

Dumanis told the mayor she is looking into it, Sanders said at a press conference today.

He also said that he’d asked SEDC President Carolyn Y. Smith to leave immediately. She was terminated in July under an agreement that allows her to stay until October and pays her a $100,350 severance.
