Opponents of Prop D once again promise some cool “middle ground” if people will only reject this “draconian” measure, which aligns San Diego policy with the rest of Southern California. There’s a slight problem. Even if there were some practical, workable “middle ground”, which none of the approximately 50 SoCal cities with alcohol bans has come up with, our opponents’ track record is untrustworthy.

Six years ago, when Proposition G, also concerning a beach alcohol ban, failed by about 1 percent of the vote, the opponents had promised similar so-called solutions. Once they killed the ban, they did NOTHING!
