Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008| Last year there were 42 students in my child’s history class at Serra High. Imagine my shock to learn 16 teachers had extra non-teaching periods (meaning 16 fewer classes for students) for some vague, unacceptable reason. There were no consequences for the administrators’ decisions.
Let’s see if “granma” LaRue DeKock’s concerns are addressed in a timely manner by Superintendent Terry Grier. Grier is stressing how we need to “work smarter” with our educational dollars. The standard excuse that “there is not enough money” is what I was told, but I didn’t accept it. DeKock’s grandchild should not have to spend the year crammed into a class that isn’t an optimal learning environment. Her efforts will help many other children.
