Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 | Here we go again. Two of the three small elementary schools saved from Alan Bersin’s abrupt axe are now offering significant magnet programs: Barnard school’s Mandarin Chinese language program, and Crown Point Music Academy offering Suzuki violin training and music offerings not seen in San Diego schools for decades. Both programs attract new students: Crown Point’s population doubled the first year the music program was offered.

One note: I was told several years ago that a principal’s salary is not constant. It will be and is reduced when a school population declines. I guess, though, the custodian’s salary never declines.

Before any “satellite administrative center” is contemplated (one principal serving several schools, with just a secretary (?) in charge of the campus) let’s see a detailed diary of what a principal of a small school does every day for a month.
