A couple of comments. The lawyer commissioners do disclose their clients in the Form 700s pursuant to California state law. There is a threshold requirement — that is an amount we must bill these clients and collect from them personally before we disclose it, but we do have to. The lawyers (and other commissioners) also will recuse themselves if there is even an appearance of a conflict. In terms of the commission’s “ever growing” size … We have eight full time staff positions and have only increased it to that in recent years when we were straining the staff we had. Compare that to Los Angeles and San Francisco (San Francisco is a smaller city, remember) which have 31 and 23 full time employees respectively. This is a very efficient agency and our budget represents .03 percent (not 3 percent, .03 percent) of the city budget.
