The executive director of the San Diego Unified teachers union, Dick Gale, is leaving the union to return to the California Teachers Association, with which the San Diego Unified union is affiliated. Friday will be his last day on the job.

Union president Camille Zombro said rumors about any discord with the San Diego union were unfounded, and that Gale was simply taking another management job with CTA. His departure comes in the middle of a bruising campaign by the teachers union to oust school board member Mitz Lee, who voted for teacher layoffs during the budget crisis earlier this year.
