Over the last few months, you’ve no doubt noticed our campaign to “Double Your Voice” and build our membership base. Two of our most generous donors decided to help us by offering to match up to $100,000 of donations of less than $5,000 from people who either hadn’t given before or were willing to give more than they already had.

You responded. We set the deadline for the campaign for Friday, Oct. 31 and you put us over the edge that afternoon.

Over the course of the initiative, 154 new donors decided to invest in our efforts; 50 people who hadn’t given in quite some time decided to donate again; and, 91 loyal members decided to increase their contributions to help us get over the finish line.

We can’t thank you enough. It’s your support that allows us to produce the daily, in-depth news and analysis of issues involving local education, government, environment, public safety, science, housing, the economy and many other sectors that affect your quality of life in San Diego. Our reporters know that they should not cover something or finish a story unless they’ve been able to answer a simple question: Why is this important? Unlike for-profit media outlets, we’re not interested in telling stories just to get attention. We pursue a mission to give residents the knowledge and in-depth analysis necessary to become advocates for good government and social progress.

A special thanks to board member Gail Stoorza-Gill, who organized the Double Your Voice Campaign Circle in support of the initiative.

And a special thanks to those members of the circle who have a broad range of different views on local issues but agree on the need for quality local news and investigative reports and who helped us recruit new donors:

Marlee J Ehrenfeld, MJE Marketing Services Inc.
Danah Fayman
Tom Gable, Gable PR
Sarah Kruer Jager, Monarch Group
Pamela Maes
Cheryl Kendrick
Dave Rowlands

We offer a hearty thank you and a promise to continue our efforts. Though we reached our goal this time, we will always need your support and investments. We need resources to produce local news and to embark on long-term investigations. The great thing about us is that you will see the products of your investment every day when you log on to our website to get your daily fix of the news that matters.
