If incumbent City Attorney Mike Aguirre is within 7 or 8 percentage points of Jan Goldsmith when the county’s absentee ballot results are announced, his campaign consultant Chris Crotty will be happy. The results usually come in at around 8 p.m.

Crotty said it’s way too early to tell if Aguirre’s going to win reelection tonight, but he said the absentee ballots will help to indicate what’s likely to happen. Absentee voters are typically older and more conservative, Crotty said, which means they’re less likely to support Aguirre.

So, if the incumbent’s within 7 or 8 percent, he’s got a good chance to close the gap when the rest of the votes are counted, Crotty said.
