Over the weekend we shared an interview I did last week with Anurag Kashyap, a 17-year-old senior at Rancho Bernardo High. Kashyap and I go back a few years — I covered his win at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2005 when he was in middle school and I was a journalism intern for Copley News Service. You can read the interview here.

Sam Hodgson came with me and set up some Scrabble tiles for the photo that ran along with the interview. While he was doing that I asked Kashyap how well he does in the classic word game. He said he has a way to go to become a Scrabble champ — learning the two-letter words, for one.

“Knowing vocabulary and playing Scrabble are two different things,” he said.
