The U.S. Defense Department’s research and development funding arm awarded this week both SAIC and a General Atomics consortium grants for research into making jet fuel from algae.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency gave $19.5 million to the General Atomics consortium, which also includes UCSD’s Scripps Institute of Oceanography. SAIC’s grant was $14.9 million.

A hat-tip to Xconomy for the heads up on this.
