Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 | A problem with KPBS and public television, in general, is the lack of feedback from the average donors. There are a few shows on KPBS that I would like to contribute to their support and several that I definitely do NOT wish to support. KPBS and public television in general should permit targeted giving. If they want to tax 25 percent or so for general use that would be tolerable. Targeted giving would permit the viewers to have a strong input into the selection of the shows.
Instead of removing our favorite shows during fundraising season and providing drivel, the amount of funds submitted to support each show or class of show could be discreetly displayed. The thought of losing one’s favorite show because of a lack of financial support would provide strong motivation to donate.
