Remember when the new San Diego Unified board canceled the layoffs of teachers who were terminated during the budget crisis of last summer?  At the school board meeting tonight, Deputy Superintendent Chuck Morris shared some early numbers on just how many teachers came back:

Out of 45 teachers who had not already been rehired this fall, Morris said 23 had been contacted and asked for a leave of absence. Five have accepted jobs and are awaiting positions in the schools. And 17 have not yet been reached to let them know that their jobs are now saved.
