Mayor Jerry Sanders donned a Steelers jersey and submitted briefly to Pittsburgh-esque weather because of the Chargers loss at last weekend’s playoff game.
As part of a friendly bet with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Sanders wore the jersey and toted skis for a picture with a macaroni penguin in SeaWorld’s Penguin Encounter. (Had the Chargers won, Ravenstahl would have posed in swim trunks and a surfboard.)
According to his spokeswoman, Sanders said: “It was 20 degrees in the Penguin Encounter — a lot like Pittsburgh, in fact. When I walked out, it was a perfect San Diego day — sunny and 75. In San Diego, even when we lose, we win.”
The Union-Tribune’s PolBlog has been covering the bet — as well as a more successful wager with the Indianapolis mayor — in detail.
