Councilwoman Donna Frye recently pointed out to me that she has proposed requiring city contractors to follow the state Public Records Act. As I detailed in this story, the mayor’s planned managed competition initiative will likely reduce the public’s access to documents regarding functions that are now run by the city.

The measure that would mandate access was among the changes proposed last year by Frye and Councilman Carl DeMaio as a way to enhance council oversight, though the new councilman didn’t completely sign on to the public records suggestion.

Their joint proposal states that Frye supports changing the city code to make contractors subject to “the same document disclosure requirements as government,” while DeMaio wants to “propose a more narrow scope of disclosure.”
