More from Water Waste Watch: Reader TC e-mailed me with a complaint that a water main has been spewing at the San Diego Tech Center in Sorrento Mesa for about a month.

The reader notified the city two weeks ago; still the water main is broken, he said.

“You can see the rust and the general dilapidation of the unit and lack of maintenance,” the reader said.

I spoke to someone at Maguire Properties, which manages the property. She identified herself as Caroline and said the problem was with a “backflow device.”

Those keep water from being sucked back into the city’s system, which can happen when the city has a main break.

“We have notified our backflow company and they’re supposed to be working on it,” she said. The city of San Diego contacted Maguire, she said.

When I kept asking questions — why is it taking so long to be fixed? — she stopped answering and said I had to speak with the company’s corporate offices.

We’ll keep an eye on the leaking main and report when it’s fixed. If you see water being wasted, you can notify the city. Let us know, too, by e-mailing me at
