Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 | As a member of the San Diego City School Board and as someone who realizes the reason for the Field Act that sets high earthquake standards for schools, I oppose any waiver of safety rules for school construction even in a joint use facility like the proposed downtown central library.

No one should cut corners in an earthquake zone with the safety of our kids. We are not China.

Eager to please the downtowners that are trying to leverage our school bond issue, Shelia Jackson, the current board president is willing to risk the safety of children for her own political ends.

A common question posed when people run for school board is “are you planning to run for another office?” Even if the question isn’t answered, it is clear by the actions of an elected board member that they are looking on to “better paying political jobs.”
