An interesting anecdote from a parent about the budget crisis and how it affects schools: Kevin Montgomery said his daughter, a student at Patrick Henry High School, was given extra credit for bringing in a box of tissues. He quipped, “That is certainly a learning experience at multiple levels.”
Montgomery wrote in an e-mail:
I think the academic extra credit offered was very slight. I’ll bet the teacher was buried in Kleenex, though, considering how competitive the students in [Advanced Placement] and Honors classes can be. I know my daughter thought it was a lot of fun to get an unneeded extra point for something so silly.
