In my story on a possible cancer cluster at San Diego State University, I reported that SDSU spokesman Greg Block said the university hired a firm in 2007 to assess hazardous materials at Nasatir Hall and Storm Hall as part of a “routine” check.

Block emailed to clarify that the assessment wasn’t regularly scheduled, as my use of the word routine might have suggested. The university conducted the check as part of the process of preparing to renovate the buildings.

In other words, it is not something the university does on a regular basis.
