So I got a random call from a salesperson yesterday who was trying to get me to get me to give him my sources in the science and tech community. I, of course, didn’t do that. But I allowed him to lead me to his company’s website, which has a great presentation of the various places the $787 billion stimulus package is going.

In recent stories we have been reporting on speculation as to exactly how much stimulus money will end up in San Diego. You can’t find that out with the website, but you can find out which federal agencies will get the most money, and perhaps get some sense of how San Diego might fare.

A final note: The underlying data for the website came from the folks at ProPublica, our brothers and sisters in the world of non-profit journalism. I have to laugh at how this came about. ProPublica, as a public service, creates a database of stimulus recipients. A private company gets this database and uses it as a hook to sell its software. Then a salesman from the company calls me asking for more freebies. I find that funny.
