The City Attorney’s Office is investigating the circumstances regarding the 2007 DUI cases of B.D. Howard, who has said he is planning to run for the District 8 City Council seat.
Since I wrote a story last week about Howard’s arrests and the lawsuit he filed against the city following his second arrest, I put in a few calls to the City Attorney’s Office to find out more about why the cases were dropped. This morning, I received the following e-mail from City Attorney Jan Goldsmith:
We have ordered an internal investigation with regard to both of these matters that occurred in 2007. This is not an investigation aimed at any particular person or allegations of wrongdoing. It is aimed at learning what happened within this office that led to the results.
We should be in a position soon to provide some level of information.
Howard is a former staffer for Council President Ben Hueso and managed the campaign of Stephen Whitburn last year.
Howard has confirmed to me and stated in a letter to voiceofsandiego.org that he plans to run to replace Hueso, who is running for state Assembly next year.
