The San Diego County Taxpayers Association gave out its annual awards last night, recognizing voiceofsandiego.org‘s Will Carless for his coverage of the Southeastern Economic Development Corp. hidden bonus scandal.
The city and county of San Diego won a golden fleece award for their settlement on Grantville redevelopment, which involves a complicated series of financial transfers that shift redevelopment monies between downtown and Grantville.
The San Diego County Employees Retirement Association also took the dubious award for its risky hedge fund investments.
The city of San Diego took home a golden watchdog award for its pension reform efforts and compensation cuts. Sandag took a watchdog award for its use of stimulus dollars and tax revenue to keep construction moving during the recession. The city also got some love for completing its overdue audits.
10News won the other media watchdog award for its coverage of the city’s Data Processing Corp.
