The president of the Sweetwater Union High School District teachers union estimates that nearly 2,000 employees have now signed a petition of no confidence in Superintendent Jesus Gandara. The school district has 6,665 employees, including substitutes and student workers.

Sweetwater staffers have downplayed the petition as a tactic to steer bargaining, which has stalled between the teachers union and the school district. Union President Sam Lucero argued the numbers show “this is not a freshman fraternity prank.”

Check out our last update for more on the petition; KPBS also did a piece on the issue earlier this week.
