Monday, May 18, 2009 | It seems that the teachers UNION is dictating all aspects of the operation of a school. The union’s job is to negotiate fair pay and benefits, not to dictate the day to day operations of a business (school). This attitude is exactly why California has failing student grades and graduation. I personally know several teachers who do not buy into the “union mantra” and would like to see it change, but under California law they must join the Union and pay whatever dues that are mandated that are allowed to be spent on whatever the Union wants to.
This is why it is perhaps time to embrace a discussion on California becoming a “RIGHT TO WORK” state and allow persons to work where they want and not have to be a union member if they so choose. I have heard other people advocating this idea and hope it really goes forward.
