Sam Wong, who oversees the human resources office at San Diego Unified, is taking the golden handshake, Superintendent Terry Grier announced at the school board meeting last night.

Grier broke the news just before the board refused to approve a $25,000 contract spanning from June to August to pay a consultant, former County Board of Education member Robert Watkins, to help find a replacement for Wong, whose salary is roughly $155,000 annually. Grier said that Watkins had experience doing job searches, but board members were unconvinced that his expertise was worth the expense.
