I’ll be heading over to NBC this afternoon to discuss my reporting on the new firefighter classification, Firefighter III, which was the subject of this story we ran yesterday. The interview will air at approximately 4:35 p.m., the NBC producer tells me.

I’ve been getting a lot of feedback on the story, and I’m interested in hearing more from firefighters and other public safety personnel about what they think about the issue. In the wake of my previous reporting on the Firefighter III position, I received a few emails from firefighters in which they defended the new classification and challenged my reporting. But this time I’ve heard nothing.

Get in touch and let me know what you think. What is your opinion of the personnel department’s work in this regard? I’m also interested in hearing from people in the personnel department. Have you seen similar new job classifications come and go?
