We sometimes get teased about getting kind of wonky in our in-depth reports on politics or education, but we also dedicate ourselves quite regularly to writing just about people: those hard-working Joes and Janes that do everything from making our Old Town tortillas and inflating our bounce houses to running a Fortune 500 company or preparing our funerals.

We also tell the stories of the community members who identified a problem in their neighborhood and took the challenge head-on to make their corner of San Diego a better place, from the architect designing a community conversation in San Ysidro to the Somali immigrant building an urban farm in City Heights.

Now, we’re going to celebrate all of those people and more with a special voiceofsandiego.org event on Thursday, June 25 highlighting the subjects of our People at Work and Virtual Convening series.

Come and enjoy light appetizers with us, meet interesting people, view some fantastic photos and support the continued telling of these stories from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McMillin Event Center in Liberty Station.

To register, please e-mail camille@voiceofsandiego.org by June 19. Admission is free for voiceofsandiego.org donors and $20 for first-time donors.

And then, the next day, we can all get back to the job of making San Diego a better place.
