Attorney Lee Burdick is the pick of the San Diego City Council to serve on the Port Commission.

The council today picked Burdick over Environmental Health Coalition Executive Director Diane Takvorian in a 5-3 vote during the third round of voting.

The other two candidates, former City Council candidate Marshall Merrifield and hotelier Bill Evans, dropped out in earlier rounds of voting when they failed to secure enough votes. Evans’ supporters Councilwoman Marti Emerald and Councilman Kevin Faulconer switched their votes to Burdick while Councilwoman Sherri Lightner, who nominated Merrifield, backed Takvorian.

I’ll have a full story on this later today. For now, read this story and this post from last month for the backstory.
