Tuesday, June 9, 2009 | I am shocked and astonished by this story of flagrant abuse of Title I funds by Superintendent Terry Grier.

In his defense, he says, “Have you ever tried to eat on $25? I promise you it is very difficult to do.”

Newsflash, Mr. Grier. Finding a meal under $25 is NOT VERY HARD TO DO!

You don’t have to go to a fast food joint. There is a wide spectrum between Wendy’s and Ruth’s Chris, buddy, and when you’re stealing money from underprivileged kids, the least you could have done was curb your appetite for luxury items such as venison, not to mention picking up the tab for the whole table! Yeah, it’s easy to play big shot with other people’s money.

Superindendent Grier, you need to be fired. You need to pay back what you spent.

While an awards dinner was denied $600 of funding that was clearly an appropriate use of Title 1 money, you consumed nearly that amount. The people who let you pick up the bill are just as culpable.
