Councilwoman Donna Frye’s chief of staff, Steven Hadley, is planning to run for Frye’s seat next year with the endorsement of his boss.

But he doesn’t live in San Diego. For more than six years, Hadley has lived in San Marcos.

Hadley said he moved there to make it easier for his son to attend private school in Escondido near the family’s church. He’s in the process of selling his San Marcos house and looking for a place to buy in District 6.

Hadley doesn’t expect his residence to be an issue in next year’s election, saying he has spent nearly all his time in the district. “I live in the district,” he said. “I sleep in North County.”

Hadley must be a registered voter in District 6 for 30 days before filing nomination papers. Former state Assemblyman Howard Wayne has also taken the first step toward running for that council seat.
