I had to leave a lot of good stuff out of my story on the recent efforts of the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, including this quote from Lorena Gonzalez, the organization’s secretary-treasurer and CEO.
Gonzalez told me she believed that Mayor Jerry Sanders bullied the City Council into voting 8-0 to impose compensation cuts on police and blue-collar workers, and said she thought that under the former council president, negotiations would have continued.
“I’ve had numerous differences with Scott Peters,” Gonzalez said, “but under Scott Peters, it was a more experienced council and I think there would have been different decisions made.”
