I just talked to Lani Lutar, president and CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association. She said she’s contacted Darren Pudgil, the spokesman for Mayor Jerry Sanders, to find out why he won’t release 692 e-mails we requested about the city’s shelved water-cuts plan.

I requested the e-mails because I wanted to know what factored into the misrepresentations that Alex Ruiz, assistant director of the city’s Water Department, made about the city’s water-cuts plan.

Lutar said she hasn’t heard back from Pudgil. I haven’t either. (I put in another call this morning.)

Lutar said she’d call Pudgil again. She said:

The speculation of what’s in the emails is going to be so much worse than what’s probably in them. It doesn’t seem to make sense. I’m concerned from a good governance perspective why information would not be made available to the public.
