I heard last night from Don Wood, the local activist whose e-mails were — in the estimation of Mayor Jerry Sanders’ office — secret until we threatened to sue the mayor and the city.
Wood wrote:
Funny that the mayor’s PR staff thought they needed to keep back public news clips. I send those out to everybody. There must be about 70 people on my water news clips [distribution] list. Go figure.
Rani Gupta, our former city hall reporter, checked in from the road to find out what secret attorney-client privileged document she’d stumbled onto. It was a memo from former City Attorney Mike Aguirre about skate park liability.
Gupta said:
I got that memo off the city website and may have published it on our site.
We did. It was included in this March 30 story about the city’s plan for skate park supervision.
I’ll share some more of the e-mails shortly. I also have a call into Darren Pudgil, Sanders’ spokesman, to get an explanation about why the city did this.
