Pedro Orso-Delgado, the local Caltrans district director, has resigned effective Aug. 18 to become a deputy city manager in Santee.
Orso-Delgado will get a raise for the move. He made $136,514 at Caltrans; he’ll make $155,000 at Santee, where he’ll oversee tasks including planning, engineering, land development and capital projects.
In an e-mail to Caltrans staff, Orso-Delgado said it could take six months to hire his replacement. An interim director will be named soon. He wrote:
This new position will provide me the opportunity to continue to follow my dream of planning the growth of a city. I am confident that I am leaving the District in the capable hands of highly talented individuals such as yourselves. We are all facing challenges both privately and professionally. I am encouraging you to take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to broaden your experiences here at Caltrans through the rotation program. …
In closing, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you for your trust and contributions to making my tenure as District Director rewarding, fulfilling and making District 11 the envy of Caltrans.
Orso-Delgado has worked at Caltrans for 25 years. He’s been district director for almost nine.
