Teachers union President Camille Zombro said she has been contacted twice by the Houston teachers union, once a few weeks ago and once this week, with questions about San Diego Unified Superintendent Terry Grier.

Unions often seek out information about potential superintendents before they are hired. Grier brushed off the rumors that he was seeking the Houston job earlier this month, saying, “Give me a break.” I haven’t been able to reach the Houston union president to find out why their group believes that Grier is a finalist for the Houston job; her phone has been very, very busy.

Under his contract, Grier must promptly inform the school board if he is a finalist for another job. School board President Shelia Jackson said Tuesday afternoon that Grier had not notified her about any other position. The Houston Chronicle has reported that the new superintendent could be announced as early as tomorrow.

I sent Grier an e-mail last night and called his office for comment this morning. I’ll update you if I hear from him or the Houston teachers union.
