Paula Cordeiro, dean of the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego, wrote me an e-mail saying that she had hoped Grier would be her last superintendent while she was dean. (That looks unlikely right now.)

She wrote, “The drama continues once again. All of this makes me quite sad.”

I knew Terry was a finalist. If he leaves, it will be a shame, Terry tried so very hard… although this comes as no surprise. I hope the board decides to come up with a different model because no veteran superintendent has any chance of success in this district with this board. So many children are doing poorly on a variety of different measures and there is a lack of urgency on the part of some board members. The model is broken and SD needs a different model. I hope there will be civic dialogue about the need to dramatically change the governance structure.
