School board member John de Beck has this odd habit of making predictions. During the school board elections last year, he predicted that candidate John Lee Evans would upset incumbent Mitz Lee.
He was right. De Beck also predicted that Shelia Jackson would be reelected (also right) and that she would begin running for another seat midway through her term (also right.) Maybe being on the school board for two decades just gives you a sixth sense?
So I took note when de Beck offered up another prediction, this one on a replacement for Superintendent Terry Grier, who is headed for Houston. “I will predict that the only possible person will be somebody who’s already known to the board,” he said, adding that they would be “in house or close to in house” and likely a woman of color.
I guess we’ll see, although I’m honestly racking my brain to find someone who fits that description. Check out this list of top administrators to see what I mean. Huh. Superintendent Shirley Wilson, maybe?
