Citywide water usage is down 14 percent over this time last year, Mayor Jerry Sanders said at a morning press conference outside City Hall.

Residential use is down 15.4 percent, irrigation is down 24.4 percent, commercial/industrial is down 6.5 percent and city departments are down 19 percent.

“We’re on the right track and we’re hoping to keep it up through the fall,” said Sanders, whose personal water use has decreased dramatically.

The decrease comes amid mandatory water restrictions that began June 1. Sanders said the city has issued no citations for water violations, but has given out warnings. Five cases have been referred to code enforcement, but were resolved soon after the notices went out, he added.
