Biocom’s Terri Somers is out with the latest Deals and Data, her periodic tour through the happenings of the local biotech world.
Among other things, she highlights the news this week that the Amylin Pharmaceuticals board has picked a new chairman, Paulo Costa.
Costa’s election comes after previous board chairman Joseph C. Cook, was ousted in May at the culmination of the board’s bruising proxy battle with dissident shareholders Carl Icahn and Eastbourne Capital Management.
She also links to Xconomy’s interesting item about San Diego-based Inovio Biomedical coming back from the brink of insolvency thanks to the swine flu-generated push for more vaccines.
And she keeps up on several big deals in local biotech, the biggest being locally based MediciNova Inc. announcing that it would buy rival Avigen Inc.
