I often tell people that I’ve taken more photos of Mayor Jerry Sanders than I’ve taken of my entire family combined.
I’m fairly sure that’s not an overstatement. Upon searching my hard drives for the keyword “Sanders,” more than 2,700 files come up — and then my browsing software usually crashes.
So after getting my safety shots out of the way, I generally try to find a new angle on the J-Man. It’s turned out to be one of the biggest challenges of my young photojournalism career. Yesterday, I spent a few minutes photographing Sanders from behind, figuring that he’s a recognizable enough person that the images will work even if his face isn’t clear.
