All this week in The Hall blog, we are having guest bloggers broadly tackle two issues: How the city of San Diego can escape from this year’s $179 million budget deficit and what needs to happen to address future deficits.

We’re also soliciting comments from readers on the same two questions. We will post the best answers on Friday. We don’t expect anyone to have all the answers down to the penny, but we do think that a discussion of the city’s priorities is helpful to the debate on the city’s financial future.

Please e-mail me or tweet me your thoughts. You can also comment below this post and the guest blogs in The Hall (if you’re not there already).

Our first guest blog yesterday came from Murtaza Baxamusa, a research director at the Center on Policy Initiatives think tank. He believes it’s beyond time for the city to look at new revenues.

City Council will begin its debate tomorrow with a meeting at 9 a.m. Click here for background documents on the meeting and the deficit.
