A tasty bit of budget news: School board member Katherine Nakamura announced that San Diego Unified trustees will give up catered food at their meetings to save money.

A spending freeze in the school district had put the kibosh on food for adults, but listed board meetings and superintendent events as a possible exception to the policy. Employees who pointed that out to me were none too happy about it. So trustees are putting their mouths where their money isn’t.

“We have concurrence that we can brown bag it just as well as the next person,” Nakamura said.
