Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 | Here We Go Again: Round and round the budget cut carousal we go, where and when it will stop, nobody knows.
Again, Mayor Sanders is proposing big cuts to our libraries. Again, the Allied Gardens branch is on the chopping block for cutting hours. What an outstanding idea!
Let’s take a library that is one block from an elementary school (Foster), two blocks from a middle school (Lewis), and close to many resident retirees and combine a branch with Tierrasanta, a city that cannot be reached unless you take Interstate 15 (forget about making a road that would connect Princess View Ave. to Tierrasanta, that would be too simple).
Meanwhile, the city will leave open the Mission Valley Branch, home to all those wonderful single 20 somethings who live in all those wonderful Mission Valley condos. Brilliant!
Meanwhile again, the city will pay $160 million to that wonderful pension system (or is it $240 million?) Brilliant!
Bankruptcy is looking better and better all the time.
