Twenty percent of high school freshmen in San Diego County didn’t meet half or more of the fitness requirements for California children, according to state test results released today. That’s an improvement over last year, when nearly 25 percent of freshmen fell short.

The scores date back to last school year and measure flexibility, upper body strength, aerobic fitness and other indicators. Statewide, fitness scores improved among children of all ages who took the test.
