Over the past five years, I’ve had many opportunities to write about and photograph San Diego State University and the issues surrounding the school and its campus. Before graduating from the school in 2006, I was news editor of the school’s independent newspaper, The Daily Aztec. Shortly after graduating, I joined the alumni board of SDSU’s Friends of Journalism and Media Studies.
More recently, I’ve been employed by the university’s College of Extended Studies to teach an audio slideshow course. I felt it was only prudent to disclose this, as today, we ran my photograph on a story concerning SDSU’s admissions policy.
I didn’t feel that working at the university would inhibit my ability whatsoever to take an honest, truthful picture to accompany Alpert’s story. But, in the interest of full disclosure, I thought readers should know my relationship with the school.
