Yesterday, we made an editorial decision to try something different for the elections: We ran all of our photography in black and white.

The mood and feel of a black and white photograph just seems to fit well with political coverage. We always try to provide content that will separate ourselves from the rest of the field, and our front-page black and white slideshow was the approach we took.

Of course, we’ll be back at it in November for the general election. So, while it’s fresh in your mind, I’d like to know what you thought of the photographic coverage yesterday. Did you love or hate the black and white? Was there a race you’d like to see covered more? Did the slideshow player function well for you?

I’m open to any thoughts about how we can best cover these elections. I make these photographs for you readers, so it’s up to you to tell me what you like and what you don’t like. Check out the slideshow below, which I’ll keep updating with a few new photos, and share any thoughts in the comments section, on Twitter, or by emailing me at sam.hodgson@voiceofsandiego.org.
