The Latest

A new development company has emerged from the ashes of the troubled Amerland Group and is seeking help from the Housing Commission in borrowing $15 million for a new project.

Why It’s Important

Five executives from Amerland and one of its subsidiaries were recently charged with manslaughter and more than 100 cases of elder abuse for a fire at one of its complexes for the elderly in Vallejo. The L.A. city attorney has also accused the company of consistently ignoring fire code problems.

The Details

The new company, C&C Development, is being run by two former Amerland executives. They continue to use Amerland e-mail addresses, the company’s phone number and its past projects to burnish their bonafides.
